MY STORY

YOUR STORY

Stories from the city, stories from the sea

Hi, I’m Eleanor Wood.

I’m an author and therapist.

I’ve always loved stories. I believe stories are powerful and magical.

For as long as I can remember, I have used art to help me access big feelings. As a teenager, I would watch A Star Is Born (the Barbra Streisand version, on VHS) when I felt like crying but I wasn’t entirely sure why. I get a sensation in my chest like no other when I listen to Hey Jude on a sunny Saturday morning and the ‘na-na-na’s kick in. When I re-read The Bell Jar, I am transported back to living in a damp bedsit above a multistorey car park and dreaming of being a writer. When I re-read I Capture The Castle, it feels like coming home, even though that’s a concept that has always been complicated for me in ‘real life’.

So, I guess it makes sense that I now combine writing and therapy.

Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea is my favourite PJ Harvey album – listening to it reminds me of being in Hong Kong at 20 years old, riding the tram all day long, writing in my notebook incessantly with my headphones on. It reminds me why I wanted to be a writer, and how my experiences inform every word I write.

Everyone has a story. What’s yours?
